Off Snow Training

Key Components of the Dryland Program

Our dryland training program prepares athletes for the physical demands of snow sports through targeted, off-snow conditioning. Each component is designed to build foundational skills that translate directly to performance on the mountain.

💪 Strength & Power

Build leg, core, and upper body strength to support dynamic movement.

Focus: Develop the power to absorb impacts and propel yourself through varied terrain.

🤸 Balance & Agility

Improve your ability to maintain stability and react quickly.

Focus: Mimic the instability and rapid adjustments required in snow sports.

🏃 Endurance & Conditioning

Enhance your stamina for long days on the mountain.

Focus: Increase your capacity for sustained effort and aerobic recovery.

🧘 Flexibility & Mobility

Expand your range of motion to prevent injury and improve movement quality.

Focus: Targeted stretching and yoga to support muscle pliability and joint health.

Early Season Training

Includes:

  • 4 dedicated on-snow training days at Mt. Hood Meadows throughout December

  • The Learn to Ride Program is designed for brand new skiers and snowboarders, as well as beginners ready to move beyond the bunny slope. With a focus on building confidence, mastering basic techniques, and fostering a love for snow sports, this program offers a supportive environment where athletes can grow at their own pace. Riders receive hands-on instruction from experienced coaches, practice in small groups, and progress through tailored skill-building sessions that make learning fun, safe, and rewarding.

  • Our Early Season Training Program is designed for skiers and snowboarders who want to hit the ground riding. These pre-season sessions offer a focused and supportive environment to build momentum before competitions begin.

    Program Highlights:

    • 🏔 Snow Readiness – Get reacquainted with the mountain and terrain

    • 🧠 Skill Building – Strengthen foundational techniques across multiple disciplines

    • 💪 Season Prep – Train both mentally and physically for the challenges ahead

    Whether you're new to the sport or returning with goals in mind, these sessions help athletes grow, connect, and set the tone for a successful winter.

Wednesday Night Bus

Here’s what you can expect as a member of the Wednesday Team:


🚌 9 Nights on the Mountain

Every Wednesday in January and February, our recreation bus heads to the mountain for an evening of skiing and snowboarding under the lights.


📅 Weekly Schedule

  • Before School – Gear is stored in the designated closet by the front office

  • 1:40 PM – Students are released from class

  • 2:00 PM – Bus departs from Ida B. Wells High School

  • 4:00–5:00 PM – Arrival at the mountain (depending on traffic and conditions)

  • 8:30-8:45 PM – Riding ends

  • 9:00 PM – Bus departs the mountain

  • 11:00 PM – Return to school

Skiers and snowboarders ride together in a welcoming, mixed-level community. Share your passion and make new friends across grades and skill levels.


🌱 Grow Without Pressure

If you’re loving the ride and want to take things further, you’re welcome to explore our competition teams. But there’s no pressure—this team is about fun, friendship, and representing Ida B. Wells with pride.

Includes:

  • Transportation to/from practice

  • Bus chaperone

  • Group riding

  • Adult chaperone for medical emergency's

  • Limited direct coaching by request

  • Open to skiers and snowboarders

  • Dinner and snacks on the bus ride to the mountain

  • Use of the screen printing facilities for the preseason party

Not Included:

  • Mt. Hood Meadows Season Pass

  • Housing

  • Nightly Coaching

  • Weekend vans

Thursday Night Bus

What you can expect as a member of the Thursday Team:

Our expert coaches guide small groups of 7–11 riders through a dynamic mix of snowboarding disciplines designed to build skill, confidence, and competitive edge. Each session is tailored to current snow conditions and upcoming competition schedules, ensuring riders get the most out of every run.


Disciplines include:


•     Freeride – Explore natural terrain and develop adaptive riding techniques


•     Slopestyle – Master jumps, rails, and creative line choices


•     Halfpipe – Refine aerial control and amplitude


•     Banked Slalom – Race the clock on a winding, berm-filled course


•     Boardercross – Go head-to-head with up to 4 riders on the Banked Slalom track


Before coaching begins, riders enjoy 45–60 minutes of freeride warm-up to loosen up and get in the zone.


Competition Team Requirement:

All competitive riders are expected to train with a coach for 2 hours each evening, focusing on discipline-specific techniques, race strategy, and performance refinement.

We encourage every rider to take full advantage of our passionate coaching staff—whether you're chasing podiums or just pushing your personal best.

Includes:

  • OISA Registration

  • METRO League Fee and Bibs

  • Insurance State Championship Competition Fees and Bibs

  • 2 hours of hands-on snowboard coaching each night

  • Transportation to/from practice

  • Use of the screen printing facilities for the preseason party

  • Dinner and snacks on the bus ride to the mountain

  • Coaching at all competitions

  • Weekend vans to the mountain if you are competing

Not Included:

  • Mt. Hood Meadows Season Pass

  • Housing

  • USASA Fees

Thursday Night Bus

Here's what you can expect as a member of the Thursday Team:

Our expert coaches guide small groups of 7–11 riders through a dynamic mix of skiing disciplines designed to build skill, confidence, and/or competitive edge. Each session is tailored to current snow conditions and upcoming competition schedules, ensuring riders get the most out of every run.

• Learn-To-Ski-Race:


• Freeride – Explore natural terrain and develop adaptive riding techniques


•     Slopestyle – Master jumps, rails, and creative line choices


•     Halfpipe – Refine aerial control and amplitude


•     Giant Slalom – Race the clock on a wide, winding course that tests speed and edge control


•     Slalom – Race the clock on a tight, technical course with quick turns and fast reactions.


Before coaching begins, riders enjoy 45–60 minutes of freeride warm-up to loosen up and get in the zone.


Competition Team Requirement:

All competitive riders are expected to train with a coach for 2 hours each evening, focusing on discipline-specific techniques, race strategy, and performance refinement.
